Skunk Removal

Avoiding skunks

People steer clear of skunks because no one wants to deal with the potent smell their spray leaves behind. As skunks are not typically flexible and able to squeeze into small spaces, they are however known to live underneath houses. The problem with them around your home is that you have a higher risk of being sprayed; they carry diseases, dig holes in your yard and make a mess around your property.

What Attracts Skunks To My Home?

Skunks aren’t as nimble and small like squirrels but they are very smart and will take advantage of any holes or openings they can use to get underneath your home. More than likely they’ll get in somewhere around the base of your home. You shouldn’t have to worry about any holes near the roof however, because skunks are more diggers rather than climbers. Also, be sure not to attract skunks to your home by leaving out food or trash that they can get into. By doing this, you are basically providing them shelter and giving them food to eat, which are the two main things skunks are looking for. A couple of things you can do to deter skunks from your home is:

  • Install A Sprinkler System - There are systems you can get that are motion activated so they’ll only turn on when there is something moving in the area. The water sprouting up is enough to frighten them away and have them scurry off to a safer location.
  • Add Extra Lighting - Skunks tend to avoid areas with bright lights. For that reason, you might want to add some floodlight in your yard. This will help to keep the skunks away and they will avoid the yard completely. Generally, most of the rodents dislike brightly lit areas. Skunks are shy, nocturnal creatures so brightening up the area will discourage them from even going near your home.

Get Professional Preventative Services

Wildlife Control Services is always interested in preventing wildlife problems before they start; prevention is always the best course of action. Chimney caps, underground fencing, roof vent covers and a number of other techniques can prevent wildlife from entering homes or burrowing under structures, thus removing the necessity to capture animals in the first place. Anyone who seeks to protect his or her property from wildlife encroachment provides a fundamentally sound investment. That investment not only protects the animal world by keeping them in their natural habitats but it protects the property owner from costly removal and repair expenditures.

Wildlife Control Services always strives to provide the customer and the wildlife with the safest and most effective management techniques at our disposal. We use ecologically sound and integrated control techniques in resolving human and animal conflicts. One area that Wildlife Control Services focuses on is Integrated Wildlife Management or IWM. IWM means looking at the whole picture in a given situation and combining several strategies for eliminating the problem.

Zack and Shane captured a woodchuck under my shed before he could do damage to the foundation. He was captured in less than 24 hours. I am relieved to say he was released elsewhere and I hope he is happy in his new home. Zack and Shane are very personable and know their business. Give them a try if you have unwanted animal issues.

Shane was referred to me by a co-worker who had a great experience with a pest issue. He came over the same day I called and inspected the area I had a critter problem. He knew exactly what the problem was and immediately took action to remove the pests. Within a few days he caught and removed the intruders from my house. Shane was very professional and I highly recommend hiring him if you have any pest problems.

WCS was fast to respond to my mole problem. Eliminated multiple moles from my yard. Mowed my grass today and saw no activity for the first time in several years. Highly recommend these guys.

Shane and team were outstanding! Communication excellent. You do need to leave a message but Shane gets back quickly. Case in point… On the day they were coming to address our mouse issue we came across a skunk that was sick and not moving but alive. I made two phone calls: 1st call to our town animal control and had to leave a message. 2nd to Shane and he returned my call within an hour. They took care of the skunk no problem. Still have yet to hear back from the town. So if you have a choice Shane is your man!

Wonderful company! I was shocked to find a bat hanging in my gable vent. Zach screened my vents so no more "visitors" could move in, and made sure the bat was gone. Quick, efficient, careful, beautiful job. I highly recommend this company.

Wildlife Control Services "squirrel proofed" my home and did a fantastic job - I'm so pleased. Guys carefully worked with the weather to make sure that wear and tear on the lawn qas kept to a minimum when they brought in digging equipment. Completed work looks great. Cleanup after the job was completed and thorough. I couldn't be more pleased

We were at our wits end after playing loud (really loud) music for 5 days and 5 nights to try and convince the momma raccoon and her 5 kits living in our fireplace that there are quieter nests elsewhere. I called Shane, left a message and he promptly returned my call and with an hour he was at my door. He quickly assessed the situation, knew exactly what to do. In short order all the raccoons were removed from our fireplace. Shane is a true professional that I can trust to handle any other wildlife invasion! Forever grateful, Judy Glastonbury, CT
