Connecticut's summer season is a bustling time for mammals, as the warm weather brings them out of their shelters and into the spotlight. As advocates for responsible wildlife management, Wildlife Control Services LLC is excited to shed light on the most active summer mammals in our state. From playful climbers to speedy runners, this article will introduce you to some of the remarkable creatures that thrive during the summer months in Connecticut.

Eastern Gray Squirrels: Agile and Energetic Tree Dwellers

Eastern gray squirrels are a common sight in Connecticut's parks, woodlands, and neighborhoods. These agile mammals spend their summer days scurrying up and down trees, searching for nuts, seeds, and fruits. Known for their impressive leaping abilities and bushy tails, gray squirrels bring energy and entertainment to any outdoor setting.

White-tailed Deer: Graceful Grazers of Forests and Fields

Connecticut's forests and meadows come alive with the presence of white-tailed deer during the summer. These majestic mammals are known for their grace and beauty as they gracefully move through their habitats. While their diet primarily consists of leaves, grasses, and tender shoots, it's not uncommon to spot fawns playfully exploring their surroundings under the watchful eye of their mothers.

Raccoons: Clever Nighttime Foragers

Raccoons are highly adaptable mammals that thrive in both rural and urban environments. Although they are active year-round, summer nights bring them out in search of food. Their dexterous paws and curious nature make them skilled foragers, and they can often be seen exploring trash cans, gardens, and even attics. Their distinctive facial markings and nimble movements add a touch of intrigue to Connecticut's wildlife landscape.

Eastern Chipmunks: Energetic Gatherers

Eastern chipmunks are small, lively mammals that are busy throughout the summer season. These industrious creatures can be observed scurrying along the ground, collecting and storing food in their underground burrows. Their cheek pouches, used to transport food, are a distinctive feature. Chipmunks' playful behavior and high-pitched calls add charm to Connecticut's natural surroundings.

Coyotes: Stealthy Predators of the Night

Connecticut's coyote population is active year-round, but they become more visible during the summer months. These intelligent predators are adaptable and can be found in various habitats, from forests to suburban areas. Although they are typically nocturnal, sightings during daylight hours are not uncommon. Coyotes play an essential role in maintaining the balance of local ecosystems, primarily by controlling rodent populations.

Striped Skunks: Nocturnal Strollers

Striped skunks are fascinating creatures known for their distinct black-and-white fur and pungent odor. They are primarily nocturnal and become more active in the summer as they search for insects, small mammals, and plant matter. While their defensive mechanism of spraying a foul-smelling liquid is well-known, skunks prefer to avoid confrontation and would rather go about their business undisturbed.

Connecticut's summer months offer a glimpse into the vibrant world of mammals. From the playful antics of gray squirrels and chipmunks to the stealthy presence of raccoons, coyotes, and skunks, our state's wildlife is diverse and captivating. As responsible wildlife management advocates, Wildlife Control Services LLC encourages a harmonious coexistence between humans and these remarkable creatures. Let's appreciate the natural wonders of Connecticut's most active summer mammals while fostering respect and understanding for their habitats

In this blog article, we will explore some of the fascinating species you may encounter during the summer months in Connecticut, including raccoons, squirrels, and groundhogs, while emphasizing the importance of responsible wildlife management and conservation efforts.

Avian Delights:

Connecticut is a bird lover's paradise, boasting a diverse avian population. During summer, migratory birds grace our skies with their colorful plumage and enchanting melodies. Look out for the striking red hues of Northern cardinals, the cheerful songs of American goldfinches, and the graceful flight of Eastern bluebirds. Additionally, our state's wetlands provide vital habitats for waterfowl, including magnificent great blue herons and elegant egrets.

Buzzing Pollinators:

As flowers bloom and gardens thrive, pollinators become essential contributors to our ecosystems. Bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds play a vital role in pollination, ensuring the continuity of plant life. From the industrious honeybee to the delicate beauty of monarch butterflies, these pollinators are crucial for maintaining biodiversity. Creating pollinator-friendly spaces in our own gardens by planting native flowers and avoiding pesticide use helps support these important creatures.

Active Mammals: Raccoons, Squirrels, Groundhogs, and Bats

Connecticut's woodlands come alive with various mammals that become more active during the summer months. Playful Eastern gray squirrels can be spotted darting through trees, while agile raccoons explore their surroundings. These creatures are fascinating to observe, but conflicts may arise when their habitats intersect with human settlements. Raccoons can be notorious for raiding trash cans and causing property damage, while squirrels may find their way into attics or create nests in chimneys. Groundhogs, also known as woodchucks, can burrow in lawns and gardens. Bats, on the other hand, provide valuable pest control by consuming insects and mosquitoes. If you encounter such situations, seeking professional wildlife management services can ensure the safety and well-being of both humans and animals.

Protect Your Home with a Chimney Cap: Keep Wildlife Out with Wildlife Control Services LLC of CT

Your chimney not only provides warmth and comfort but can also become an access point for unwanted wildlife, posing threats to your home and family. Chimney caps play a crucial role in keeping wildlife out, and when it comes to professional wildlife control services in Connecticut, Wildlife Control Services LLC is your go-to solution. In this article, we will delve into the significance of chimney caps and how Wildlife Control Services LLC can help you safeguard your home from wildlife intrusions.

The Significance of a Chimney Cap:

  1. Wildlife Prevention: Without a chimney cap, your chimney becomes an open invitation for animals seeking refuge. Raccoons, squirrels, birds, and other creatures can easily make their way inside, causing damage, noise disturbances, and unsanitary conditions.

  2. Structural Integrity: Wildlife intrusions can compromise the structural integrity of your chimney system. Nesting materials, debris, and droppings can obstruct airflow, potentially leading to chimney fires or carbon monoxide buildup. A chimney cap acts as a protective barrier, preventing animals and debris from entering and maintaining the structural integrity of your chimney.

  3. Fire Safety: A chimney cap acts as a spark arrestor, preventing stray embers or sparks from escaping and potentially causing fires on your roof. This extra layer of protection significantly reduces the risk of chimney fires, ensuring the safety of your home and loved ones.

  4. Improved Indoor Air Quality: Wildlife intrusion brings along contaminants and allergens that can enter your home through the chimney. By installing a chimney cap, you can prevent these pollutants from circulating in your living spaces, ensuring cleaner and healthier indoor air quality.

Why You Should Call DEEP Wildlife Division, When a Bear Appears on Your Property in CT

As a wildlife control service provider in Connecticut, we understand the importance of protecting both human beings and wildlife. In the state of Connecticut, black bears have become a common sight in recent years, especially in residential areas. It's important to know what to do if you spot a bear on your property, but more importantly, who to call for assistance.
While many people may be tempted to call a private wildlife control service company when they spot a bear. We would advise instead calling the State of Connecticut DEEP Wildlife Division, 860-424-3011, or DEEP Communications Center 860-424-3333, for assistance. Here's why:

  1. Public safety is the priority: The State of Connecticut has an established bear management program that works with state agencies, municipalities, and private landowners to ensure public safety and reduce bear-human conflicts. When you call the State, a trained wildlife professional will respond to your call and assess the situation, taking the necessary actions to protect public safety.

Private services may not have the necessary equipment or training to handle the situation safely, leading to a potentially harmful situation for both the bear and the public.

  4. The State can track and monitor bears: The State of Connecticut keeps a database of bear sightings and interactions, allowing them to track bear movement patterns and make informed management decisions. By calling the State, you're contributing to this valuable data collection effort.

In summary, if you spot a black bear on your property (, we strongly advise against calling a private wildlife control service. Instead,) call the State of Connecticut DEEP for assistance. The State has the expertise, experience, and equipment to safely haze or remove the problem animal without causing harm to the bear or the public. Remember, public safety is the priority when it comes to dealing with wildlife conflicts.
